Wicked Jazz Sounds is a weekly Sunday club night running since 2002, where jazz meets dance. DJs and musicians play together on a danceable mix of jazz, hip hop, soul, funk, house, disco, latin, electronica and lots more. Making you dance with a smile!
For this years ADE edition Wicked Jazz Sounds has decided to focus on two rising Dutch talents. Funky Organizers being one of the ’talks’ of the third edition of Wicked Jazz Sounds Festival, they are able to rock the club night too. Talk of the underground town Duke Hugh makes his first appearance on the notorious WJS club nights with a DJ-set. Dancefloor galore!
Funky Organizers (live)
It all started in 2014 when they won the national Popsport in a sold-out Bibelot in Dordrecht. After that it went pretty fast:
A sold-out album presentation featuring Hans Dulfer, opening for the Earth, Wind and Fire Experience and a successful summer tour in 2016. They rocked venues like Bimhuis, Paradiso, North Sea Jazz Club and were one of the highlights at Wicked Jazz Sounds Festival this year! You can expect an energetic performance filled with urban funk and fat grooves.
Duke Hugh (dj-set)
Hailing from Groningen, a small city in the Netherlands, Duke Hugh toyed with instruments throughout his life, from playing classical music on the violin to playing guitar in a reggae band. His productions tread the fine line between broken beat with dreamy electronic hues through to some jazzy shades of hip hop. As a resident at the bi-monthly LOFT parties in Groningen Duke Hugh is known for his mix of boogie, brazil & broken beats.
His debut album “Canvas” on the UK label Rhythm Section International was received really well and was followed up by a flow of two EP’s on various labels.
We got a feeling this man is only just beginning to unleash his beautiful productions into the world. So keep an ear out!
Phil Horneman (dj) – Berenice van Leer (vocals) – Jeff Hollie (sax)
Your hosts for the night are these three longtime WJS residents. Together they collected an enormous amount of performing hours on stage. Expect to be blown away by their energy.
